Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- Sri Lanka's powerlifting team returned home in triumph after a record-breaking performance at the 2025 Asian Powerlifting Championships in Kathmandu, Nepal, held from August 15 to 17.

The 13-member squad captured an outstanding 34 medals - including 27 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze - against more than 200 competitors from across Asia.

Among the highlights, Ransilu Jayathilaka and Hiruni Jayasinghe secured two gold medals each in the prestigious Open Category, the most significant event of the tournament.

Ransilu also set a new Asia-Pacific record with a massive 310kg lift, marking his 7th medal win at an Asian Championship, further cementing his legacy as one of Sri Lanka's top lifters.
