Sri Lanka, July 10 -- A medical team from the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Specialised Children's Hospital, and the Faculty of Medicine at the Peradeniya University has successfully separated conjoined twins joined at the pelvic girdle.

Dr. Mathula Hettiarachchi, Consultant Surgeon at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Specialised Children's Hospital and Senior Lecturer at the Peradeniya University stated that doctors had removed one of the two kidneys found in one of the children and successfully transplanted it into the other. He noted that this was the first time such a surgery had been performed globally.
