Sri Lanka, Aug. 9 -- Sri Lanka has expressed deep concern over Israel's decision to seize control of Gaza City, warning that it would further escalate violence and worsen the suffering of its people.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said the move would heighten tensions in the war-torn Palestinian territory.

The response came after Israel's security cabinet on Friday approved a plan to take control of Gaza City, expanding military operations in the region - a decision that has drawn strong criticism both domestically and internationally.
