Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- Sri Lanka's economy is gaining stronger momentum with the World Bank yesterday raising its growth forecast for the country to 4.4 percent this year, supported by robust industrial activity and continued expansion in the services sector.

The Bank, in its latest Sri Lanka Development Update - From Recovery to Transformation launched yesterday said Sri Lanka has crossed an important milestone by restoring its economy to its pre-crisis output level.

The report also added poverty is expected to decline gradually from 16.9 percent in 2025 to 15.8 percent this year. However, this would still be higher than the pre-crisis poverty rate of 11.5 percent recorded in 2019.
