Speaking at the inauguration of the "ASEAN Cuisines Week 2026" food exhibition, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, pointing to a shared history of trade, culture, friendship and people-to-people relations said ASEAN and Sri Lanka share more than geography,. 'The friendship between Sri Lanka and ASEAN nations is being showcased this evening in its simplest form, which is through food. Food carries culture and brings people together even before diplomacy begins'.
