Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- A 33-year-old Army soldier was killed in a wild elephant attack while on duty at the Kandakadu Army Farm in Welikanda in the early hours of Friday (15), Police said.
The deceased was identified as R.M. Priyantha, a resident of Sinhapura, Welikanda. He was serving at the No. 3 sentry post at the Kandakadu Army Farm.
According to police, a wild elephant had broken through an electric fence and entered the farm at around 5.40 am on Friday, where it began feeding on paddy cultivated in the farm.
Priyantha was attacked when he went to chase the elephant away. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Welikanda Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, a Police officer said.
