Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- The Cinnamon Development Department stated that US$ 125 million has been earned during the first six months of this year through the export of cinnamon and related products.
The Director General of the department, W.M.J.K. Lindara, stated that the increasing demand for cinnamon in the international market is the reason for receiving such a record income.
He also said that they expect to bring in US$ 300 million in foreign exchange to the country through cinnamon exports this year.
With the rise in demand, Lindara said that farmers receive Rs. 7,500 for a kilogramme of Alba grade cinnamon and Rs. 5,500 for a kilogramme of C-5 grade cinnamon.
