Sri Lanka, July 29 -- Badulla High Court Judge Jeyaram Trotsky yesterday (28) sentenced Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Badulla District MP Chaminda Wijesiri to 18 months of imprisonment over an incident that occurred near the Bandarawela bus stand in February 2019.

The case was filed in the Badulla High Court against the MP and two other defendants. During the trial, it was revealed that the first defendant in the case, Bandula Rathnayake who worked as the MP's driver had passed away.

Accordingly, the Badulla High Court Judge ordered the second defendant, MP Chaminda Wijesiri, to serve an 18-month prison sentence for the charges levelled against him, and ordered him to pay Rs. 50,000 in compensation to each of the victims.
