Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- A proposal was handed over by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne requesting the appointment of a Parliamentary Special Committee (PSC) to recommend measures to expedite the backlog of the country's Court cases, reduce prison congestion and find permanent solutions to the conflicts occurring in them.

This proposal has been signed by a group of SJB MPs led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on Monday (3) and was submitted to the Speaker in Parliament yesterday (4).

This move comes as data from the Justice and National Integration Ministry has revealed that more than 1.1 million cases are currently pending in the judicial system, creating severe delays in the delivery of justice.Cou...
