Sri Lanka, March 10 -- The six new companies established by abolishing the Ceylon Electricity Board came into effect from yesterday (9).

This is due to the termination of the Ceylon Electricity Board, which had been operating under the restructuring process, at midnight on Sunday (8).

Accordingly, the Ceylon Electricity Board Act No. 17 of 1969 was repealed and the Ceylon Electricity Board as an institutional unit was legally abolished with this.

With the abolition of the Electricity Board, the generation, transmission, distribution and system operations of electricity will be transferred to six successor companies, and the Energy Minister recently took steps to issue an extraordinary gazette notification for this purpose.
