Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- A special Parliamentary committee, headed by Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendi, and Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake, was appointed to implement practical, immediate solutions to prevent elephants from being hit by trains. Based on the committee's recommendations, the Environment Ministry and its affiliated institutions have begun implementing these practical solutions.

As a step in this process, it was proposed that signboards with elephant images be installed along both sides of railway tracks to alert train drivers.
