Sri Lanka, Sept. 22 -- In separate operations, the Sri Lanka Navy arrested 78 individuals engaged in illegal fishing activities countrywide from September 1 to 15.

The operations, led by the Eastern, Northern and Southeastern Naval Commands, resulted in the seizure of 35 dinghies, one multi-day fishing trawler, unauthorised fishing nets, explosives and equipment used for prohibited methods such as light coarse fishing.

The Sri Lanka Navy carries out regular operations to curb the harmful effects of illegal fishing practices on the marine ecosystem, while also supporting the promotion of sustainable and lawful fishing activities.
