Sri Lanka, April 17 -- Scope Cinemas has taken steps to screen old Sinhala films restored in 4K at its theatres through their 'Scope Classics' initiative.
Next in line to be screened is the epic Sinhala film and the first CinemaScope film in South Asia, Welikathara. The movie directed by Dr D.B. Nihalsinghe, featuring Gamini Fonseka and Joe Abeywickrama as arch rivals, broke all box office records when it was first screened in 1971 in the golden era of Sinhala cinema. Welikathara depicts the clash between Police Officer ASP Wickrama Randeniya and the outlaw Goring Mudalali.
Welikathara will be screened at Scope Cinemas Multiplex - Colombo City Centre from April 17 to19.
