SriLanka, Sept. 23 -- Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne announced in Parliament yesterday that the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has determined the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution is consistent with the Constitution and does not require a public referendum.

The Bill can move forward and be passed with a special majority in Parliament.

The Court advised specific adjustments, including changing the phrase "upon attaining the age of 67 years" to "upon completing the age of 67 years" in Clause 2 regarding the retirement age of judges.

That the proposed six-year term limit for the Chief Justice will not apply to the person holding office when the 22nd Amendment Bill comes into effect.
