Sri Lanka, March 24 -- Former Member of Parliament Sajin Vass Gunawardena has been further remanded by the Colombo Magistrate's Court over allegations of amassing illegal assets worth Rs. 243.8 million.
The court today (24) rejected the bail application filed on his behalf. Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order to further remand the suspect until March 31, after considering the facts presented by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and arguments from the suspect's legal counsel.
Gunawardena, who remains in remand custody, was initially arrested by CIABOC officers on March 9.
