Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- Customs Narcotics Control Division officers at Katunayake Airport arrested two passengers this morning (23) while attempting to smuggle a consignment of 'Kush' cannabis valued at over Rs. 50 million. The suspects had tried to pass through the Green Channel, which requires no declaration.
The arrested individuals are a 29-year-old woman from Colombo and a 48-year-old man from Chennai, India. Investigations revealed that they had purchased the drugs in Bangkok, Thailand, flown to New Delhi, India, and then arrived in Colombo on Air India flight AI-277 at 6:50 a.m.
Customs officers discovered 5.092 kilograms of Kush concealed in five packages hidden inside a backpack and two pieces of luggage.
