Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- Brilliant Royal College, reduced to 14 players for most of the game, played tooth and nail to clinch the first leg of the 79th Bradby Shield, defeating League Champions Trinity College by 15 points (one goal, one try, one penalty) to five points (one try) at the Pallekele Rugby Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
The Royalists, powered by their fierce forwards and resilient defence, led 15-5 at half time. No points were scored in the second half, as Royal's defence stood firm despite playing nearly 30 minutes with a man down due to three yellow cards.
Trinity fly half and playmaker Shan Althaf missed an easy 22-metre penalty in the second minute, a chance that would later haunt the home side.
