Sri Lanka, Sept. 5 -- Rasara Wijesuriya, the long-distance athlete, once again came to the fore when she set a new meet record in the women's 10,000m event to win the gold medal at the 104th National Athletics Championships, which commenced at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama yesterday.

Rasara, the champion athlete from Army, finished the race in 33 minutes and 32.77 seconds to establish a new meet record. G.W.O.N. Fonseka and H.I.S. Fernando finished second and third, respectively, with times of 38:25.55 and 39:00.69. National champion Madushani Herath once again produced a fine performance to win the women's triple jump gold medal.
