Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday (22) in connection with an inquiry into an overseas trip he made during his presidency.

The investigation concerns a visit Wickremesinghe undertook to New York on official business, followed by a trip to the United Kingdom to attend a university graduation ceremony in London.

Earlier, the CID had recorded statements from former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake and Wickremesinghe's private secretary Sandra Perera regarding the matter.
