Sri Lanka, Feb. 18 -- The planned nationwide railway strike has been temporarily suspended following a key concession from the government.
Dimuthu Edirisinghe, Secretary of the Railway Locomotive Engineers' Association, announced the decision to halt the industrial action after a series of negotiations.
The primary catalyst for the suspension was the government's move to withdraw its controversial plan to provide train driver training to military personnel.
While the strike is currently on hold, the association indicated that the situation remains under observation, pending a permanent resolution regarding the training of non-civilian officers within the railway department.
