Sri Lanka, Oct. 8 -- Nuwara Eliya residents staged a protest opposite the Nuwara Eliya Post Office against moves to transfer the water supply service operated by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) yesterday (7).

Residents joined opposition councillors representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, United National Party and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the protest, saying that the proposed transfer could adversely affect the people of Nuwara Eliya.Read Travel Guides

The protesters said the water service currently operated by the Municipal Council generates revenue for the Council while enabling residents to obtain drinking water at comparatively affordable rates.
