Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- The Most Venerable Narampanawe Ananda Thera, Anunayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, stated that he had observed a trend of clapping and whistling during the Kandy Esala Perahera street procession last year, and that everyone should understand it is a sacred festival imbued with cultural, religious, and social value.
He noted that no matter how grandly the authorities organised the Perahera, it would be of no use if society failed to protect its value systems.
