Project to construct 35,000 houses for homeless families
India, Sept. 7 -- A housing project aimed at constructing 35,000 homes for homeless families has commenced, with the Housing, Construction and Water Supply Ministry alone providing houses for 12,000 families this year, Minister Susil Ranasinghe said.
The Minister made these remarks while attending a media and technical skill development training programme for regional young journalists at the National Youth Services Council in Maharagama recently.

He further noted that all 12,000 of these housing units will be built through non-repayable housing grants of Rs.1 million or Rs.1.5 million each. The overarching project to construct 35,000 homes is being implemented collaboratively across multiple authorities.
