Sri Lanka, Nov. 7 -- The North Central Provincial Education Director has suspended a school principal who was arrested with over one kilogram of heroin in the Tedagala area of Eppawala.
In a letter issued to Jayantha Balasuriya, the principal of a school in the Katiyawa area under the Thambuttegama Educational Zone, the Director stated that the suspension was made under the provisions of the Establishments Code, citing serious misconduct.
The principal's arrest has also led to political repercussions, as his wife, National People's Power (NPP) Peliyagoda Municipal Councilor Disna Niranjala, has tendered her resignation from the council following the incident.
