Piriven education must be strengthened to revitalise the Buddha Sasana - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya

Sri Lanka, June 22 -- Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said Piriven education must be strengthened to revitalise the Buddha Sasana in the face of challenges from broader social transformation.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the National Piriven Day State Ceremony 2026, titled "Sasunata Diridena Surakimu Pirivena," held recently at the SIBA premises in Pallekele.

'Reforms to Piriven education should be undertaken with a clear understanding that Piriven institutions and schools serve distinct purposes. We must recognise that Piriven institutions and schools are not the same, and reforms should be introduced accordingly'.
