Sri Lanka, July 31 -- Livestock farmers will benefit from a pig insurance scheme to be introduced by the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB).
The move stems from a decision of the Presidential Task Force appointed to restore the collapse of the pig industry due to the African swine fever pandemic.
'The AAIB has made plans to declare August as Pig Insurance Month and promote the referral of breeding pigs for insurance', said Pemasiri Jasinghaarachchi.
He said it hopes to include breeding animals from pig farms that are maintained on a commercial scale and are registered with the Department of Animal Production and Health in the insurance.
