Sri Lanka, June 25 -- Leader of the House and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa told Parliament yesterday that the Provincial Council Elections will be held at the earliest possible opportunity once Parliament resolves existing legal barriers.

He said that the primary holdup for the long-delayed polls rests on unresolved legal and legislative frameworks rather than a shortage of state finances

He said this in response to a question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Premadasa made a request in Parliament yesterday to hold the Provincial Council election as soon as possible."We are committed to protecting the 13th Amendment to the Constitution," he said.
