Sri Lanka, July 15 -- South Asia's first passenger transport drone project will be launched in Sri Lanka before the end of this year, Civil Aviation Authority Director-General and CEO Captain Daminda Rambukwella said. The service, which utilizes modern technology, is planned to launch as a pilot project during its initial stage.

Rambukwella noted that a single drone operating under this project can transport six passengers simultaneously. Initiated under the instructions of the Ports and Civil Aviation Minister, discussions are ongoing with the International Civil Aviation Organization regarding the programme and the relevant rules and civil aviation plans have already been prepared.
