Sri Lanka, Feb. 18 -- The Parliamentary Pension (Repeal) Bill was passed by 152 votes with 154 votes in favour and two votes against with no abstention, yesterday (17).

The Parliamentary Pension (Repeal) Bill, which repeals the Parliamentary Pension Act, No. 1 of 1977 and abolishes the pension rights of Members of Parliament, was presented to the House for its first reading in Parliament on 2026.01.07 by the Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara.

The Parliamentary Pension (Repeal) Bill has been prepared to repeal the Parliamentary Pension Act, No. 1 of 1977 of the National Assembly.

The National Assembly's Bill to repeal the Parliamentary Pension Act No. 1 of 1977 was also gazetted.
