Sri Lanka, March 18 -- Sri Lanka has significantly reduced its reliance on foreign canned fish, with imports dropping 90 percent up to now, while boosting local production, including initiating exports, Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Deputy Minister Rathna Gamage told Parliament yesterday.Beaches & Islands

"The country's canned fish industry has grown to meet almost 95 percent of local demand through 16 large factories, leading to a significant reduction in imports.

Sri Lanka's canned fish imports which was 8,758 MT in 2021 has dropped significantly to 601 MT by 2025.
