Over 8,000 Police, Security Forces personnel to be deployed for Esala Perahera

Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- Over 8,000 members of the Police and Security Forces are scheduled to be deployed for the security of the Kandy Esala Perahera festival.

The security plan includes 6,200 Police officers, 564 Special Task Force (STF) personnel, 1,200 members of the Tri-Forces, along with a team of Civil Security Department personnel. The assistance of the Police Kennel and Mounted Divisions will also be utilized. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya arrived in Kandy on Saturday (15) to brief the Mahanayake Theras regarding the security arrangements for the procession.
