Over 4 Mn Kg of expired sugar discovered at Kelaniya warehouse
Sri Lanka, July 8 -- A joint raid conducted on Monday (6) by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) and the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force uncovered more than 4.2 million kilogrammes of expired sugar at a large-scale warehouse complex in Pethiyagoda, Kelaniya, owned by a leading sugar importers.
The seized stock consisted of nearly 85,000 bags of sugar, each weighing 50 kilogrammes.
The suspects taken into custody during the operation were later released on bail, while the warehouse complex was sealed pending further investigations.
The raid was carried out following intelligence provided by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force to the headquarters of the Consumer Affairs Authority.
