Organised attempt to cripple prison functioning - Minister
Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- The recent unrest that took place at the Mahara Prison pointed out clear signs of intentions of sabotage and arson, which raises suspicions of an organised attempt to cripple the prison facility's administration and we will not hesitate to take action against such organised conspirators, Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara told Parliament.
During a special statement made in Parliament yesterday (4) over the recent Mahara Prison unrest, the Minister said that the incident went beyond a typical prison inmate clash where prisoners deliberately ended up setting fire to the kitchen, cafeteria, infirmary and offices, including the main jailor's office of the Mahara Prison.
