Sri Lanka, Dec. 18 -- A group of opposition MPs, led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, today submitted a proposal to the Speaker seeking the formation of a parliamentary select committee to investigate the country's lack of preparedness ahead of Cyclone Ditwah.

In the proposal, the MPs described Cyclone Ditwah as the most severe natural disaster in Sri Lanka's history. While the full extent of the damage to lives and property is still being assessed, they emphasized that the magnitude of the disaster demands urgent parliamentary attention.

The MPs highlighted that early weather warnings were issued by the Department of Meteorology and covered by international media prior to the cyclone's landfall.
