Sri Lanka, July 22 -- A tense situation arose after the ruling party and Opposition boycotted the monthly meeting of the Norwood Pradeshiya Sabha to protest at the actions of its chairman, Johannes Francis Allen.

MPs from both the ruling and opposition parties also expressed their dissatisfaction that Allen, who is from the National Peoples Force, did not grant permission to journalists who went to cover the monthly council meeting, but instead granted permission to two other media persons to cover the meeting.

Allen took steps to adjourn the meeting for 10 minutes after members walked out.
