Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- The North Central Province canal will be constructed to extend the benefits of the 1960 Mahaweli Development Master Planto the North Central Province, and deliver Mahaweli water to the Northern province.

With financial support from the Asian Development Bank, the NCP canal construction is implemented under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Programme (MWSIP) which was launched in 2015.

The North Central Province Canal Project is the most significant and largest under the ongoing MWSIP. During the first stage, a 9 km long interconnection canal will be constructed to transfer surplus water from the Kalu Ganga reservoir to Moragahakanda reservoir.
