SriLanka, Sept. 23 -- Health and Media Minister Dr.Nalinda Jayatissa told Parliament yesterday that 94.66% of the essential medicines required for daily hospital operations are successfully being maintained in stock across facilities. He said the vast majority of priority medications are currently available to meet patient needs without interruption.

As of September 2026, the Health Ministry confirmed that 585 out of 618 essential medicines are currently available at State health institutions.

All 13 life-saving drugs also remain fully available.

The government has allocated funds to facilitate local emergency purchases to minimise the impact of these shortages and restore the full buffer stock as quickly as possible.
