Speaking at the Cabinet press briefing, he said the Government is aware of the US statement on sanctions for countries providing services to such ships, but it was not meant only for Sri Lanka. 'It was made for the whole world and as the US is a party to the war, it has stated its position'.
Jayatissa said many vessels are present in international waters in a region like Sri Lanka's. Given the current war and the issues in the Strait of Hormuz, ships from any party could be in the international waters around Sri Lanka.
