Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- National People's Power (NPP) MP Lakshman Nipunaarachchi has moved the Supreme Court seeking the dismissal of a Special Determination petition filed by two office-bearers of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) challenging the proposed Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution.

BASL Treasurer Pasindu Silva and Assistant Secretary Lakitha Isiwara Wakishtaarachchi had earlier filed a special determination petition in the Supreme Court.

They sought a determination on whether the Twenty-Second Amendment Bill, or any part of it, is required to be approved by the people at a referendum under Article 83 of the Constitution.
