Sri Lanka, July 14 -- Two more prison officers who were receiving treatment following the violent clashes at Negombo Prison have succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll from the incident to 31, Police said.

According to the Police Media Division, the two officers, aged 25 and 39, died yesterday (13) and in the early hours of today (14) while undergoing treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

With their deaths, the number of prison officers killed in the incident has increased to 10.

Police said 21 inmates were also killed during the clashes that erupted inside Negombo Prison on July 5 and 6.
