Sri Lanka, Oct. 28 -- With the coordination of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Colombo, the Sri Lanka Navy promptly brought ashore a critically ill crew member of the cargo vessel MV IYO, sailing in the Eastern seas off Trincomalee, and transferred him to the Trincomalee General Hospital for treatment on Sunday (26).
The MV IYO, a Panama-flagged cargo vessel en route to Chennai, India, from Singapore, had onboard a Filipino crew member who had become critically ill due to severe abdominal pain. Meanwhile, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Colombo at Navy Headquarters, was alerted by the vessel, requesting Naval assistance to bring ashore the crew member to provide urgent medical attention.
