Sri Lanka, Sept. 21 -- Between 01 and 15 September 2025, the Sri Lanka Navy conducted a series of operations across the island's waters, apprehending 78 individuals engaged in illegal fishing activities.
The coordinated operations, carried out by the Eastern, Northern, and Southeastern Naval Commands, led to the seizure of 35 dinghies, one multi-day fishing trawler, unauthorized fishing nets, explosives, and other equipment used for prohibited practices, including light coarse fishing.
The Navy continues to conduct regular patrols to combat illegal fishing methods that harm the marine ecosystem, while promoting sustainable and lawful fishing practices.
