Sri Lanka, May 4 -- The Government is planning to enhance community based life-saving capabilities in light of the high death toll resulting from drowning.
Also, the absence of a national level plan on the above and the need to create such an initiative has come into focus.
Defence Deputy Minister Major General (Retd) Aruna Jayasekara discussed the above with Sri Lanka Coast Guard officials when he visited the SLCG Headquarters in Mirissa and the Lifesaving Training School in Balapitiya recently.Sri Lankan History
He also stressed on the importance of addressing security concerns at fishery harbours, strengthening marine environment protection measures, regulating ferry operations and combating narcotics trafficking.
