Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena that Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has been named a suspect in the investigation into alleged financial irregularities and money laundering surrounding the procurement of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.

Filing a motion with a supplementary report on September 11, the CID informed the court that the Attorney General had instructed them to name Namal Rajapaksa as a suspect in this case. Rajapaksa is currently in remand custody after the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) filed charges against him before the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
