Sri Lanka, Jan. 16 -- In the past ten years, a total of 27,134 people have died in road accidents across Sri Lanka, according to police statistics. These fatalities occurred in 25,704 reported fatal accidents, out of 248,026 accidents recorded between 2016 and 2025.Beaches & Islands
While it is mandatory to report every road accident to the police under the Motor traffic act, a senior police officer noted that many minor accidents are not reported due to insurance company procedures that handle claims without police involvement.
