Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- A 38-year-old mother of three was killed by a wild elephant in the Mahilawettuwan area of Batticaloa. Her four-year-old daughter was also injured and has been admitted to hospital.

Police identified the woman as Pasupathi Ravichandran, a resident of a village in the Ayithiyamalai Police area. The family was getting ready to go to the Murugan temple festival in the village and the woman was attacked by a wild elephant when she came out of her home, it was said at the inquest.

Her four-year-old daughter was also injured and has been admitted to the hospital, police said.
