Sri Lanka, June 22 -- National Dengue Control Unit Director Dr. Kapila Kannangara said yesterday that more than 700 cases of dengue, which has now become an epidemic, are being reported daily.

He said that there were instances where more than 1,000 patients were reported daily last week, and 12,196 dengue cases have been reported since the beginning of June. Dr. Kannangara stated that June is the month with the highest number of patients reported since the beginning of this year, and overall, 46,037 cases and 28 deaths have been reported from the beginning of this year to date. He also emphasised that among the 28 reported dengue deaths, six were of children under the age of 15.
