Sri Lanka, May 28 -- No patients diagnosed with meningitis have developed critical complications or died, according to Epidemiology Unit's Community Physician Dr.Thushani Dabarera.

Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (27) at the Health Promotion Bureau, Dr.Dabarera explained that meningitis is a seasonal disease that can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungi. She noted that the cases currently being reported are linked to a viral infection.

She further stated that nearly 200 meningitis cases have been reported since April 15. Of these, around 150 patients have fully recovered following treatment and have been discharged, while 50 others remain hospitalised and are recovering steadily.
