Sri Lanka, June 22 -- Seat belt laws for vehicles travelling on expressways were being implemented strictly from yesterday (21).
Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety Manjula Kularatne said a three-month grace period has been granted exclusively for vehicles that were manufactured without built-in seat belts, allowing owners time to install them.
Although an additional three-month grace period has been provided for that specific category, fines will be imposed separately on both the driver and individual passengers found travelling without seat belts from yesterday.
