Sri Lanka, Oct. 5 -- A man found guilty of procuring an Uzbek national for prostitution in Colombo was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

In addition to the sentence, Colombo High Court Judge Lanka Jayaratne also ordered the accused, identified as Lawrence, to pay a fine of Rs.10,000.

Delivering the judgement following a lengthy trial the Colombo High Court Judge held that the prosecution had established the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.

The Attorney General had indicted the accused under Section 360A (1) of the Penal Code for procuring the Uzbek woman for prostitution in Colombo in 2021.
